Isa's thoughts stilled as she began trying to remember exactly what she said... Isa's eyes widened. Her words hadn't been blatantly erotic, after all sexual deviancy was a legit area of study, but they could be suggestive to those with a certain... mindset.

“Sometimes, I pick her up from the hospital because I just have this overwhelming need to see her. To smell her.” Dr. Castro exhaled deeply. “Honestly, what you feel is normal for many couples, Max. But I can’t ignore that you’re dealing with these intrusive thoughts—meaning they come up on their own and grab your attention, even though they aren’t based in reality. He’s trapped in there. His warmth is in there. In my drawings. In my sketching. I wanna touch. I wanna hug.

How my hands itch to touch her even when there's no audience to perform for, no strategic reason beyond pure want. The intrusive thoughts are the worst part. They arrive uninvited when I should be sleeping. I wonder what she's dreaming about. Whether she kicks in her sleep. Whether she'd let me hold her through a nightmare or if she'd push me away because she's learned that men who hold you in the dark usually hurt you in the daylight. I've started cataloging things about her that I have no business knowing. She squeezes her face when food is too hot, this dramatic scrunch that makes her look twelve years old.

I could hear my heartbeat in my ears, rapid and irregular, like something trying to escape from inside my chest. I sat back on the cot, my legs suddenly unable to support my weight. The plastic mattress crinkled beneath me. I pressed my palms against my eyes and saw colors. Fractals. Patterns that didn't exist but felt absolutely real. The intrusive thoughts kept coming. Violent images. Scenarios where I hurt people. This wasn't me. I knew it wasn't me. But what if I was wrong? What if this was me? What if everything I thought I was had been an illusion, and this rage, this violent urge, this hunger for revenge was my true self finally breaking free?
