Chapter 21 Before the fire Zima's POV I sat on the bed in the dorm, watching Betty hum some weird tune that I know doesn’t exist. My head was pounding with too many thoughts .. revenge plans, King Aiden, Darius, Damon… all of them tangled up in my brain like a messy playlist I couldn’t turn off. I was supposed to be getting ready for combat lessons, but honestly? The thought of training with Darius again made me want to skip. I wouldn’t learn a thing, not with those stupidly warm eyes watching me the whole time.

My throat felt raw as I tried to push past her. Miranda shoved me hard. I stumbled into the wall, and the repair case slammed to the floor with a heavy crash. "Fix it? Looks more like you're planning to poison us!" She raised her voice, the sound echoing harshly through the corridor. "Everyone, come look! Zach's about to dump poison into the vents! I didn't approve a private room for him two days ago, and now he wants us all dead!" The alarm had already drawn a crowd. Panicked residents filled the hallway. At her shout, dozens of eyes snapped toward me.

“But I think it’s clear what’s going on here.” Vivian shook her head, clearly unconvinced. “If he wants to keep this a secret, he sure is making it hard. No outsider has ever stayed on that floor.” Tyler’s voice dropped into something softer, almost conspiratorial. “You know it. Zane’s trying to fight the bond, but it’s messing with his head. In a week, they’ll probably share a room.” I tuned them out as I got out of the car, a strange mixture of excitement and dread bubbling in my chest. This was real now. There was no turning back.

“Go away, Samantha. You just want to add him to your list. You’ve already screwed with our alpha heir and the one in the next pack over... You won’t get a reward if you complete the whole collection, you know.” Samantha scoffed at Suzie, wanting to say something mean back, but Zev didn’t give her the chance. I sighed, running my hands over the soft sheets. "He was fit when you left—he liked to run and hit the gym—but now, Mmmm", Evie droned off. "Now he is seriously ripped. "Doesn't he remind you of a superhero from one of those Marvel films?" she asked, excited and youthfully flirtatious. "Except those guys were good, Evie. Z is no good guy. He is the villain in our story.. remember that." I snapped a little too harshly. With a whine, she disappeared, leaving me to daydream about my villain.

I realized he liked to push Zavion's buttons. "How about we kiss and makeup," Dim batted his lashes and purred. I bit my lip to keep myself from laughing. "You have lost it," Zavion gave him a disgusted look. "That's an excellent idea. You both should kiss and make up," I encouraged, enjoying the show. Zavion gave me a look of disbelief. Dim emboldened by my support, stepped closer to him. "Come any closer and I swear you will fucking die," Zavion warned Dim. Dim only grinned in response.
