Ethan trailed behind her, grinning widely with a gift bag hanging from one hand and a lollipop in the other. I blinked. Davina. She was real. Standing in my office. We hadn’t been face-to-face in over five years. Her eyes locked onto mine, and for a second, everything inside me stopped. She really thought I was dead. She went to my grave every month for five years. I could see the heat, the confusion, the relief, rushing up in her face, flickering behind her lashes. So I didn’t move. I waited. “Is she dead?” That was the first thing Annaida hissed when the six‑foot‑five bald brute lumbered into the room, Davina’s unconscious body slung over his shoulder. He glared at her, anger flashing in his eyes. Davina’s expression hardened. She stood slowly, climbing out of the ditch. "You know why those people want me dead?" she said, her voice rising. "Because I said no to killing your girlfriend's sister and her mother. And what do I get in return? This?" She gestured to their surroundings, frustration and hurt evident in her tone. "And I'm supposed to believe that crap?" Lucas's voice was sharp. Davina's jaw ticked, a flicker of irritation crossing her face. Without another word, she spun on her heel and began to walk away.

“She passed away a month ago, I didn't know she had a sister or else I would have reached out. We… we received the letter you sent to her because we were hiding out in her house, that was how we knew about you.” For the briefest moment, something flickered across Davina’s face. A tightening around the eyes. A hand curling slightly at her side. Then it was gone. She straightened, lifting her chin. “Do you know if she passed peacefully?” Elaina answered truthfully, “I believe she did”

She wanted to leave. I felt a deep sadness blanketing my heart. This person had endured a lot and even though I might not even have known her, I felt sorry for the life she had to lead. I felt sorry that such a powerful being was chained and imprisoned and forgotten in history somewhere. I remembered Elias mentioning how she was killed but the fact that this was a hoax somehow made it worse. I walked towards the array. “No…” Davina whispered. Fiona’s strike with that whip had weakened her almost and I belatedly wondered how Clyde was holding her back.

David and Oliver sat on a bench in the park with smiles on their faces as they watched Collin being tickled by Nora and Gwen who were giggling attacking Collin with tickles. He stood there for a moment, watching without a word. There was no trace of sympathy in his expression. “She’s getting exactly what she deserves,” Daven said at last.
