White was the mourning color in William’s family. Black is forbidden, therefore no one wore it.

Nathan clung to my right side as Serena caught up with me after adjusting the straps of her heels. Men in hats, women in black skirts whispered amongst themselves in accents I barely knew. They carried white umbrellas and surrounded the grave being dug in the middle. It symbolized to the cubicles of Dominoes if I must emphasize on the correct order. I haven't played the game but I have seen Serena and Jenna play more than once and the precision of my vision indicated that the graveyard went around like Dominoes. Even if I were wrong, it doesn't matter because it's probably not the time or place to even articulate the structure of this cave where I would be burying a great friend.

As we cover them with soil, I whisper a silent prayer, for God to lead my parent’s souls into heaven and should they be reborn, for them to have a better life.

The sky was a gray the next morning. It was like the sun did not want to see what we were doing. We buried the people who died at light. There were twelve graves. We dug twelve holes in the earth behind the eastern ridge. The soil was good there. The trees gave us some shelter. We wrapped the bodies in white cloth. That was all we could give them. We did not have coffins or long speeches. The pack just stood in a circle heads bowed. The wind carried the smell of dirt and last nights blood.

He sneered, urging me on, "Bring the camera closer. Let us see how you break the world record!" I wasn't provoked by Zachary. Gasping for breath, I raised the axe over my head and swung down toward the layer of ice and snow protecting the pipeline.
