REINA I stood in the bathroom, staring at the tomato sauce stain. It was a massive, bright-red, irreversible blot on my favorite white t-shirt. But the stain wasn't the worst part; the feeling was. Humiliation had a taste, and it tasted like salty marinara. I kept thinking about Austin’s face. That flicker. “You okay?” His voice was a low rumble, entirely different from the clipped, sarcastic tone he used at school. It was… human.

I kinda feel a teensy bit objectified right now.', he joked, 'The worst part is.. I sort of liked it', I could hear the mock horror in his voice as I imagined him with his hands on the sides of his face, mouth open, like a good looking version of The Scream.

"Wait, what?" I blinked in confusion. "I'm just as confused as you are." He said with a shrug. "Are you sure it's not a scam?" I wondered, peeking into his phone when he showed me the screen to read the content for myself and the email really was from a verified brand.

I step into the shower and reach for the curtain, but he shakes his head. "I want to watch. Make sure you don't pleasure yourself while washing my release off you.” Fuck him. I quickly hopped in the shower, feeling embarrassed yet strangely aroused. What a mess. He's checking his phone, could be a message, could be the time. Looks like the rage has simmered down a bit. Amy was chatting with an older couple I didn’t recognize but saw us immediately. “Oh wonderful, you’re all here. Eve you look absolutely stunning, it’s such a shame there isn’t a handsome young man to show you off.” I opened my mouth to respond when another voice interjected, a man who was coming down the stairs “I couldn’t agree more Mother, but I think this jewel shows herself just fine.” he answered, and I looked up at the owner of the voice. Tall, broad shouldered and clearly very fit under his Italian suit, which fit like a custom made glove, his smile and blue eyes set my heart fluttering just as it did when I was a child.
