Before the conversation could go any further, heavy footsteps echoed down the wide staircase. Jace Kane descended like he owned the entire world, which, in many ways, he did. At twenty-five, he was tall, heavily muscled from years of underground fighting, with sharp, chiseled features, dark hair that fell slightly over his forehead, and intense dark eyes that seemed to cut straight through people. Tattoos peeked out from under the sleeves of his black t-shirt. He looked dangerous. Intimidating. And unfairly, devastatingly hot. My stomach flipped despite myself. I had seen photos of him before the wedding, but seeing him in person was completely different. He radiated raw power and arrogance,

One of his eyes is swollen shut, his lip burst. He looks up when we come in, and when he sees me, his good eye goes wide in fear. “ Look who we have here?” I say with a big smile. Zero steps forward, his grin sharp. “He’s all yours, MG.” Jace’s head jerks up at the name, his mouth open, blood dripping down his chin. “MG? You’re… MG?” His voice shakes, scared, and I see it—the moment he knows he’s in big trouble.

I said, opening it. And there he was. Jace. Dressed simply again—dark jeans, a grey shirt, sleeves pushed to his elbows, hair slightly tousled like he hadn’t bothered to style it. Or maybe he had and just made it look effortless. Either was infuriating. But Alex didn’t care. He practically launched into Jace’s arms. “MAGIC MAN!” he screamed again,louder this time. His voice was filled with excitement and dare I say, disbelief. Jace staggered back a step, dramatically wobbling. “Whoa—whoa. It's only been three days since I saw you but you are heavy and you've grown taller too."

Jace shrugged, picking up his water jug form the metal bench on his right. Bella sat down, looking up at her friend as he chugged his jug empty. Jace Mendoza was one of the first kids who approached her once she found herself situated in said Assassin Academy. "I was quite curious too. And surprised." Bella chuckled. "I mean, why would the Romanos adopt a massacre survivor?"

There, parked crookedly near the side entrance, was Jace’s vintage Triumph motorcycle. "That’s strange," I muttered under my breath as I struggled with the weight of the shopping bags. His shift couldn't have been over by this time. Jace was supposed to be at the hardware store in town until at least four. He was twenty-four, a young man of quiet competence and a physical presence that I tried very hard to ignore. It might not be something so proud to admit, but the truth was that I found him attractive.

Instead, it feels like a riddle. Because the more I watch Jace, the less he looks like the mastermind I’ve built in my head. Yes, he’s arrogant. Yes, he’s untouchable, the crown prince of Blackridge. But the way he carries himself—controlled, careful—feels less like a boy who orchestrates disappearances and more like someone covering cracks.

Jace finally turned back and stared directly at Elora but never stopped walking. "Were you attacked by a wild animal as a child?" I smacked him on his head immediately. "Jace! You don't ask a woman about her looks!" "I apologize," he said stiffly. "All my teacher here taught me was how to fight. I am the Beta of the Blackout Pack. My name is Jace, you?" "Elora," Elora replied, her voice firm. "Nice to meet you." Jace gave her an appraisal for a few seconds before turning to look at me.

He didn't expect that a child could bear so much resemblance with his father that the only way to differentiate between them is their age and body sizes. While Eli was going to take a bath, Jace went to the basement. The assassin was a shadow of himself as he laid like a dying man on the floor, his wounds were bound up but he seemed to have gone without food for two days. "Don't worry, let's see if James Maslow is capable of saving your wife and daughter from my wrath"Jace declared. The man snapped his head up and glared at Jace. How did he know, did he do research on the email he showed them? Oh gosh, he shouldn't have let him know about those emails.

There was no way that Jace Storme was staring at me. Jace Storme was the hottest guy in the world and possibly the entire universe. He had a slender athletic body, sparkly turquoise eyes as bright as the sun, shortly cropped brown hair that he enjoyed to spike and a smile that could light up even the darkest of nights. He was the captain of the soccer team, football team, dance team, and he was the lead in the school's musical. He was the most popular junior at Macintyre High, easy. He would never be caught dead talking to me, much less gazing at me. It was probably just the stupid glasses not working for me.

I diverted my eyes back to him and let out a deep breath. “Is anything wrong, Margaux?” I heaved a deep breath and shook my head. He furrowed his brows and I know because Jace felt that I was lying. “I'm fine, Jace, and we must focus ourselves on the search that we are going to do later.” Jace stood up straight with his forehead held up high. My brows arched because of that. “Yes, ma'am.” He even saluted and that made me laugh. Jace looks like an army and honestly, it suits him. However, I like him for who he is now. Strong, powerful and an Alpha King. It suits him more.
