Jace smiled at the screen, pocketing his phone as the safety briefing began. He leaned back, relaxed, unaware that every variable of this trip had already been accounted for. That the city they were flying to would have no name in his memory. That the man beside him had been planning this moment far longer than he’d ever admit. Marcus watched the plane lift off, the ground falling away beneath them. Jace thought he was leaving for work. In truth, he was crossing into hostile territory. And he was doing it happily. Elena watched the plane icon slide across the screen until it disappeared into the gray.

I wanted to replay it over and over again when suddenly, I stopped working. I could actually check on Jace and see who it was that he had killed. When the movie is over, I turn to look at Jace, and expect to find him sleeping but he is still wide awake. I grin, “Thank you, Jace.”

The man said his eyes turned sinister as he spoke. Thoughts of Nora and Mallory flashed through his mind as he felt his jaw stiffen. He had no choice. He caressed my head as I hear his heartbeat growing louder.
