It was destroyed because Phoenix killed himself in that world, making the world turn to dust. Especially just like in a novel, we and Phoenix are the protagonists. If the two of us die, the novel will end. Just like in that world, when I died, the world was barely hanging but when Phoenix died, the world turned to dust until there was no living being anymore. I raised my head to look up at Phoenix who was also looking back at me. I looked at him with worry as I softly asked. “Did it hurt?”

I ask. “I think my parents would’ve loved you.” Phoenix’s voice is soft as he speaks, and a small smile graces his lips. “In fact, I know they would have.” Would have? “When I was ten, my parents passed away,” he says, after only a moment of hesitation. “I don’t want you to think bad about the world we live in, it’s why I’ve been so scared to tell you, but they were murdered.” I gasp at his words.

Then Phoenix shifts the scene again, where it looks like she’s being held in Ajax’s arms. “Why are you crying?” she asks him. “One of our dragons died. He was protecting his rider. I wasn’t close to him, but he had such a hard life, and he died so young. I just … I wish he’d had a chance at a better life, you know?” She turns the scene again to show my dad pulling on his earth element and burning my body back into the earth before my mother takes my ashes and blows them into the night sky. I watch as Phoenix lights the path that she made, the path where she collected my ashes and brought them to the hatching grounds, putting them into a glass enclosure then shaping it into a dragon’s egg.

Before I left, I looked straight into her eyes and said, word by word, "I was the person in the photo. I won the lottery. $30 million. Kellan didn’t lie." Her previously lifeless gaze snapped into focus. She stared at me as if she wanted to devour me whole. "Zara Nightfall! You won’t die a natural death! I’ll kill you! You will go to hell!" I smiled at her. "No. You're the one who will go to hell. As for me, I’ll live comfortably for the rest of my life." I watched her grind her teeth in fury as I slowly walked out of the detention center. Outside, the sun was shining brightly, and my future was wide open.
