It was real. After dinner, Aurelia insisted Jade read her a story. Camille had left shortly after dinner, and the house had settled into a quiet hum. I stayed in the living room, trying to focus on my phone, but my mind was a traitor. It kept drifting back to the pool, to the way Jade had told me to let go. Aurelia’s laughter eventually faded into the quiet murmurs of sleep. A while later, I heard the soft tread of footsteps. Jade came back down. She was wearing a deep emerald silk robe, the fabric shimmering under the dim living room lights. Her hair was loose and her face was bare. She looked soft, and I hated how my body reacted to the sight of her in my space.

And unlike in our land, I was no princess here so I had to work, earn money, and look for him. I stared at myself. My abdomen was fully exposed as well as my legs and shoulder blades. Only my chest and private parts were covered by a pair of undergarments having the same gold color decorated with a few golden strips of chains. It was not suited for a princess like me but this was all I could do to survive in this realm. “This is your debut night so you should make a good impression. Remember the things Milan had taught you and you will be all right.” Julian held both of my shoulders and it seemed like he could tell how stiff they were.

I muttered sullenly. Chuckling Daniel nodded. “Jade is a Lycan due to my genes and the conversion bite she received. Rest assured, she loves you, Conri, and belongs with you,” he asserted, and I grinned at him. “I love her too, sir,” I stated firmly and he nodded. “Let's go get her back so you both can have an amazing wedding!”

“Then I’ll give them one.” That night, as Grace and Julian lay on the balcony of their penthouse, wrapped in a silk blanket, she said quietly, “This isn’t the fairy tale I imagined as a little girl.” Julian smiled, pulling her closer. “This isn’t a fairy tale. It’s an empire… born of fire.” She rested her head on his shoulder. “What do we call it? Our new empire?” Julian thought for a long moment. Then he whispered, “Phoenix.” Grace blinked. “Because it rose from ashes?”

To this day, she would always remember Alain with a fond smile. “Ah well you have a magic touch. As I’ve eaten your food, I’m afraid you’ve ruined me for any other.” Jade swore, making Esme roll her eyes. She was starting to get used to his dramatics. “Stop flirting,” Jace remarked, hitting him again on the other side of his head. But Jade leapt from his seat and hurried over to Esme, holding her hands to his chest, and saying dramatically, “You’ve found the way to my heart, Mistress. Marry me instead! Ditch your dumb mate and choose me.”

I only smiled. Near the end of the night, Vivian came to stand beside me by the window. Below us, Manhattan glittered. Across the skyline, the AsterDx sign glowed from the side of our new headquarters. Vivian lifted her glass. “So,” she asked, arching a brow, “how does it feel?” I looked at the city, at the company I had saved, at the life no one had managed to steal from me twice. Then I smiled. “Unreliable men are exhausting,” I said. “A good empire is much better company.”

Helm I have no idea who the hell could be at the door. It’s late, and it’s raining heavily outside. I was surprised when Emerald growled like that. That is her warning growl. Add the fact that her eyes are glowing, and whoever it is can’t be good. Kari looks at me worriedly, but I tell her it will be ok. An omega walks into the room and tells Jason that two men here wish to talk to him. I have my back to the door, so I can’t see who it is. I hear Nalena gasp as I look up at her. The sheer panic and absolute terror on Emerald’s face tell me these people are not good. Emerald doesn’t even say anything; she just vanishes. Devon and Nate bolt up and look around. I have no doubt that

Sapphire asked. “So you've known him for 10 years? It's about time you stopped knowing him, then. I don't want to ever see you with him or any other guy. Got it?!” Anger was laced in Jade's voice as he warned. “Say something that actually makes sense.” Sapphire eyeballed him annoyingly. “Rome is family, and we're closer than you think.” About to get into his car, Jade grabbed Sapphire by the arm and pushed her to his car. She shivered in fear as he gnawed at her with eagle eyes. Staring into her eyes as if he would rip her heart into a million pieces if she doesn't agree with him.

Lily said. Jade was quiet for a moment. She then opened her mouth. "Maybe if I had a father, I wouldn't need a bike." "Look, your father gave you everything you want and need. At Least be grateful for that." Emma said. "You are right. If I try, I can give him less, but less loneliness too. He gave me more with more loneliness." Jade said. "What do you want then?" Lily asked. "I don't want a pool full of gold. I am happy with the castle built with sand and made by love." Jade said.
