Author POV:- Jane sat in front of the fireplace with letters clutched in her hands, some more than 20 years old. The oldest paper, kept perfectly neat despite the softness that came from being read thousands of times, started with an elegant "My sweet Jane" and ended with a sharp "Yours, -A." Gentle words that used to be a comfort scraped her throat as she swallowed her sobs, and Jane gripped the letter so hard that it was nearly torn in half before she realized what she was doing.

Inside: sepia-toned photographs, a handful of ink-faded letters, and at the bottom, a dog-eared copy of Jane Eyre with a broken spine from years of opening it to the same passages. I picked up the book. The cover was worn at the corners, the spine creased in three places where it had been opened most often. I turned it over in my hands and felt the familiar weight of it, this book I had first read at fifteen and had returned to every year until I was twenty-two and had not opened since because there had been no room in Josiah's house for the kind of woman who read Jane Eyre and meant it. My phone lit up on the nightstand.

“This visit was unexpected, I know. I should respect you more and give you space to think of things, but this is who I am, Eve. For you, I’m impatient and selfish. Next time, let’s meet whenever and wherever you want. I’ll meet you there.” He put on his denim, unbuttoned. Exposing the upper part of his rippled chest. He fixed them on as he went out. *** Getting home, Jane wore a pink jumpsuit, resting her back on two giant pillows with her legs on the bed. She was reading ‘EVE’ by Rose George, which was her favourite book on W*****d. Alice had a navy blue culotte dress with her black hair held up in a loose bun. A worried look spread across her freckled face as she stared at Jane.

Small, rectangular, wrapped in cream paper with a bronze ribbon. “Daniel…” “Just open it.” I unwrap carefully, my fingers trembling slightly. Beneath the paper is a book. Old leather binding. Gold lettering on the spine that catches the candlelight. Jane Eyre. First Edition. My breath catches. “This is…” “A 1847 first edition. Smith, Elder & Co. printing.” His voice is soft, almost vulnerable. “You told me that night, four years ago, that it was your favorite book. That your father used to read it to you before bed, doing all the voices. I’ve been looking for the right copy ever since.”

I knew who it was from the second I saw it, my heart did a traitorous flip as I carried it upstairs, glancing over my shoulder like Mirabel might appear at any moment. I slipped into our room, locked the door, and tore it open on my bed. Inside was a small wooden box. Nestled in velvet lay a rare first-edition copy of Jane Eyre, the cover worn but beautiful, it pages edged in gold. My breath caught. I’d mentioned it once during the holidays, of how it was my ultimate book boyfriend fantasy in physical form. Rhys had remembered. I opened it carefully. Tucked inside the front cover was a handwritten note on heavy cream paper, his strong, decisive script unmistakable.

“No.” Jane didn’t hesitate. She walked over and sat beside him on the riverbank, pulling her knees to her chest. “More visions?” He nodded, running a shaky hand through his hair. “Worse than before.” Jane studied him for a moment before reaching into her bag. She hesitated, then pulled out an old, fragile-looking piece of parchment, covered in the same ancient script as the book she had shown Caitlyn. “I think I found something about you,” she said carefully.

There was something she needed to know. “Lyra, do you know Jane?” “Jane?” Lyra repeated, frowning slightly as she thought. Then she asked, “Jane… do you mean Jane Marviella? Mr. Zayne’s college friend?” “Does she have blue eyes and blonde hair?” Lyra added, “Tall, slim, and pale?” Yeah—Elmy nodded quickly, a little too eagerly. Lyra cleared her throat, trying not to match her enthusiasm. “What about her, ma’am? Did you meet her?”

Jane felt Devlin’s hatred towards her, but she doesn’t know why. 20. “Alright, I must go, don’t want to bother you too much. It’s seeming like you have lots on your plate. She looked down to pick up her notebook to avoid Dans gazed.

"His gift?" "Yes. It should have arrived last week. A rare first edition of 'Pride and Prejudice.' He mentioned it was your favorite." Jane's favorite book was "Valley of the Dolls"—she'd never expressed interest in Jane Austen. This was a test. "Oh, that gift." Lyra scrambled for a response. "Yes, it was... wonderful. Please thank him for me." "You can thank him yourself tomorrow," Amelia replied. "Good evening, Mrs. Blackwood."

I was reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, not the first time with this masterpiece, but my admiration never fades away. Jane undeniably is one of the most amazing characters I have encountered in a book. Her perseverance in the face of adversity, her strong personality and wisdom always leaves me awe. There was something about her that I felt deeply connected with, a major reason I always turn back to this book when my life tides seem to get violent.
