He lunged toward the stage, trying to cut the power, only to be stopped by the bodyguards I had planned in advance. "What's the rush?" My voice was not loud, yet it carried clearly through the hall. I thought out loud. "Because Alpha Jason died," Jenna revealed. "What!?" I asked in shock, staring at my phone in horror. "Yeah," Jenna went on. "There are rumors about that too... but... I don't want to say too much right now," she said, sounding nervous. I was lost for words. Alpha Jason hadn't been old or sickly. He was probably around the same age as Tyler and Ryder's dad and in really good shape. With resentment, I wondered whether he hadn't perhaps met his fate during another attempt at exterminating some other defenseless pack, but Jenna interrupted my thoughts.
