“Jacob,” Jaxon frowned, stopping at the top of the stone steps. “What the f*** are you doing here? Why wasn't I informed you were coming?”
“Jaxon! You look fantastic,” I smiled warmly, taking a slow step up the stairs. “I apologize for the lack of notice. It was unexpected and incredibly urgent. It is about Aria.”
Jaxon’s eyes narrowed instantly. “What about her?”
“She had a bit of an accident last night,” I sighed, letting my fake smile drop into a look of deep, dramatic concern. “Two armed mercenaries managed to slip into my sub-cellars. They grabbed her, beat her senseless, and nearly dragged her out of the pack.”
