“To keep you in the dark.” Silence stretched between us. I forced myself to breathe evenly. “Why?” Jeff tilted his head. “Because, sweetheart, if you knew the truth… you’d be dead.” For the first time since walking in, real fear curled around my ribs. Jeff wasn’t lying. He might have been a manipulative bastard, but right now? He wasn’t playing. “You should walk away,” he said, his voice surprisingly soft. “Forget about Nolan. Forget about Lorenzo. Just go.”

X pulled his hand free and let Jason’s body fall to the ground, lifeless. For a long moment, silence stretched between us. I stared at Jason's body, unable to look away. My heart raced. My mind spiraled. I felt cold. "You killed him," I whispered, more to myself than to X. "He tried to take what is mine," X replied, his voice devoid of remorse. "He laid his hands on you.
