Even it was raining hard, the street was still busy with wheels rolling on the wet street, and feet marching on the sidewalk. The Ladies’ Coffee was a small café on the east of New York City. It was quite unpopular because of its location. It was hidden behind the tall law firm building, and was a bit far from the center of downtown. Not many actually knows that an eighteen-years-old café was existing behind the Madison Firm.

The old man put two cups of tea on the small table in front of Jai, then he took the chair behind the counter and sat across from him. Gilbert was standing behind Jai, looking as if he was checking out the goods. There were actually some books among the shelves, having its own section. So it wasn’t surprising now that the kids call this a bookstore. “Thank you, Shiroe-san.” Jai thanked the man. The old man, Shiroe, waved his hand dismissively. “Ah. Apology… There’s not much in here.”

Jenny was focused on trying to grab the slipping pieces of her beloved café. By 12pm they’d shut the doors and began discussing how best to save the café. Jasmine had some wonderful ideas that included someone of the upcoming book launches. She thought in stead of catering for them why didn’t they make the café into a place where the books could be launched. Jenny loved the idea. They could advertise upcoming books, have new releases on the shelves that just contained old magazines and newspapers.

It was a gusty Saturday afternoon, the kind that blew summer heat away and brought the gentle caress of autumn. The city buzzed softly—lovers walked hand in hand, dogs yapped leashes, and cafe tables were strewn with conversation and discarded half-lattes. Jenny White had no plans for today. A walk after brunch with Zina, a detour into her beloved independent bookstore, and maybe an iced coffee on the homebound trek. Her heels clicked against the sidewalk sharply as she turned onto 7th Street and moved in the direction of the bookstore. She'd barely extended far enough out to have her phone within reach to read a text message when a voice stopped her.

A bell jingles when I walk into a book store called “Jinx’s Magic Shop” and my nose is immediately assaulted by the smell of stale books mixed in with a lemon-scented air freshener. Moving away when someone tries to exit the store, I look around and admire the place. It looks pretty causal, with lines of shelves surrounding every corner of the left side of the room and comfortable sofas on the other. The crowd in the store is pretty small, with only a few settled down as they quietly read, and situated in the middle is a large desk occupied by a young brunette with glasses. Genesis "I've been here before," I blurted when Ethan pulled up to a downtown book shop around fifteen minutes from his house. It was one of my favorites. It had the best scones in the world, and the coffee was well-known in the area. "It's called Wolf's." "Funny, right?" Ethan smirked. I rolled my eyes and got out of the car. Did that mean I'd met the owner before? The bookstore wasn't huge like a Barnes and Noble, but it was big enough that it had two levels and multiple employees.

Sienna I walked in on one of my favorite coffee bars, tucked away in the corner of the street. It was one block away from my apartment and was always on my way to the ER. As soon as I pushed open the door, I felt like I was embraced warmly by the ambiance; the scent of freshly brewed coffee mingling with the faint sweetness of the pastries. The warm lights gave the cafe an ethereal and cozy glow.

A cat sat on the steps of the bookstore, watching us with sleepy eyes. Asher held the red door open. I walked through. The interior was warm and small, but it was perfect. I loved how serene it felt. There were only six tables, each one covered in a white cloth, each one lit by a single candle. The walls were brick, old, covered in black and white photographs of people I didn't recognize. A woman with grey hair and kind eyes greeted us at the door. "Signor Sinclair," she said, kissing both his cheeks. "It's been too long."

ELENA’S POV The coffee shop across from Blackwood Tower was exactly what I needed: floor-to-ceiling windows, a direct sightline to the seventieth floor, and the kind of trendy atmosphere where a pregnant woman with binoculars wouldn't look completely out of place. I’d told the barista I was a bird watcher studying the urban hawk population, and she’d bought it without blinking; New Yorkers believed anything if you said it with enough confidence.

The soft clinking of forks and spoons against porcelain plates blended with the soothing melody of jazz playing inside a minimalist café across from Ashford Corporation. Camelia and Ziyi sat across from each other by the large glass window, enjoying pasta and fresh juice during their lunch break. Juna had deliberately given the two women some time to talk alone while he waited in the car.
