Johnny arrived quickly. Much faster than Emanuele could have even imagined. The girl was still in her pajamas and her eyes were swollen from crying when the doorbell rang. She had told the floor and apartment number in the call, but completely forgot to mention that the culprit was not the current owner of the apartment. When she opened the door, the first thing Jhonny did was to evaluate her from top to bottom. He was wearing jeans, a black shirt and a matching jacket. Then the boy held up both her hands and said:

I knew it was Kai before I saw his features. Why was he here? Had he been following me? I turned back to my dare. “Johnny,” he smiled. “The name's Johnny.” I tried to relax, leaning in toward Johnny for something warmer, but I couldn't. Something kept stopping me; everything about it felt wrong. “I haven't seen you here before, Johnny. You don't live around here?” “Actually, no. I just moved in from Singapore.”

The sky was the limit. Johnny would go on trial within the next few months, although he’d remained in jail because it was, ironically enough, safer for him there than it was in the outside world. His so-called buddies had turned on him when he’d ratted them out, and now they were out for his blood. Rose was glad that Johnny now got to experience the terror he’d instilled in so many people. It was a small price to pay for what he’d done to her, to Heath, and to countless others.

Immediately after, a message from Enzo came through. Just four words. "Sister, I'm sorry." I stared at the photo, but I felt nothing. Not satisfaction, not anger, nothing. It was like reading an old mafia gossip rag that had nothing to do with me. Jessy was leaning back on the sofa, already a little drunk, and raised her glass to me. I draped a cashmere shawl over her shoulders and walked to the window alone. The fireworks exploded in the distance, one after another, shattering into a sky of gold and red.

“Then am I not evil?” Maisie rested her chin on his shoulder, looked up at him, and chuckled knowing that he was coaxing her. “Then how much do you think I’ve learned from you?” Nolan kissed her and rubbed her cheek with his palm. “You’ve given him a taste of his own medicine. You’ve done well.” After that, Johnny was sent to the hospital. He got what he deserved as he became extremely disgusted by anything that was related to sex—he could not even have a hard-on ever since.

And now, here they were. “Shit.” “Johnny. Watch your mouth.” She glanced over her shoulder into the backseat. “What’s wrong?” The old Gameboy she’d bought for him at a thrift store in Clifton Heights warbled. Arcs of light from the tiny screen played across Johnny’s forehead, accentuating the angles of his nose and cheeks, flaring in the hollows under his eyes. “Only two lives left. Thing’s fuckin’ hard.” She faced forward and squinted at the rain-blurred road. “Don’t swear, honey. It’s crude.”

Johnny asks with a sneer. “Don’t you dare talk about my brother like that! He was captured. We need to find him” Lilliana says, the tears pooling in her eyes from worry. “Oh, no. Stefano Moretti is not my problem. He got what he deserves” Johnny says coldly. This is not the Johnny I know. What happened to make him so cold? Does he hate Stefano that much? “Please Johnny” I ask, giving him the sweetest smile. Johnny looks away first before he turns to face me. He places his hand against my cheek, cupping my face.

Jenny didn’t need to pretend to be polite, especially in front of Brian. “All right, I can take a hint.” Johnny said as he moved his chair from the table. “Besides, I have to get up early tomorrow anyway. See ya on the air, Ms. Reed.” Johnny left the bar, not bothering to look back. He’d long ago learned how to read signals, and the message was coming through loud and clear from Brian and Jenny. It was really too bad. Under different circumstances... but Johnny wouldn’t even consider the possibility. He was Denise’s big brother, and he was going to do whatever he could to discredit the woman his brother-in-law was screwing.

Justin answered without hesitation, "That's impossible. He was out of place in our family's previous dealings and those assassinations because he didn't like them. It's because I knew his character that I was comfortable leaving you in his care." After hanging up, I called Ned. I asked, "Ned, you've been training and protecting Justin in New York.
