Also I’m not happy seeing you walk around in nothing but Chanel and doubt.”

Edward looked at the stove again. “I gathered that much.” She rolled her eyes. “Nigerian food.” Edward’s interest sharpened slightly. “You’re cooking something from home.” Amara nodded slowly. “Yes.” Edward walked closer to the counter, examining the ingredients. “What is it called?” She stirred the pot again before answering. “Jollof rice.” Edward pronounced it carefully. “Jollof.” “Yes.” He nodded thoughtfully. “And the red powder?” “Pepper.” “That explains the smell.” She gave him a suspicious look.

“And what does it mean?” “It means ‘Nothing is impossible with God.’” She blinked, impressed. “That is… powerful.” He shrugged modestly. “Our names carry weight. They carry stories, they carry prayers.” She leaned her chin into her palm. “Tell me more.” And just like that, the conversation opened wider. It can be spicy, but I promise you’ll love it.” She smiled. “I’ve never had Nigerian jollof before, or any African meal at all.”

Adira's pov, I had finished cooking and put two servings of the jollof rice on ceramic plates. The jollof rice turned out great, and, heck sure, I was delighted. In the past, every jollof rice that I had cooked turned out to look like I had roasted the rice on a harsh fire. Not only would its taste be bad, but its color was something out of this world.
