Jonathan. He stood casually beside a gleaming Aston Martin, the metallic blue paint catching the last rays of sunlight. Jonathan was strikingly handsome—tall, with broad shoulders that filled out his tailored navy suit. His crisp white shirt was unbuttoned just enough at the collar to reveal a hint of tanned skin beneath. His dark hair was swept back in artful disarray, and his clean-shaven jawline was sharp and defined. His smile was easy, confident, and impossibly charming.

Madison grunted. "I'm sure he's already dead, except they have ditches in heaven." I replied, playing along with her. "You mean hell." She said and we both chuckled. I faced Jonathan who was on my right side, looking spaced out. "Jon, what's up? Are you okay?" "Nothing. I'm fine. Except that Jayson is not picking my calls, answering my texts, avoiding me and acting like I don't exist. Literally!" Jonathan replied in one breath.

The dome dissolves, pressure lifting abruptly. I stagger—and immediately get caught by Ethan. “Still with me?” he asks softly. “Unfortunately,” I say weakly. “I think I promised not to die.” Blake flops onto the grass, staring up at the now-normal sky. “I can’t believe we just got audited by a god and survived.” Gravehowl settles back, presence easing. The Hunt stands. The Sleeper’s awareness lingers a moment longer. You did well, little Crown. Don’t make a habit of waking me.

Mr. Jonathan looks back at us, clearing his voice, “Umh…yeah. I meant, as far as I am concerned. My son has a good heart.” We both nod, although I sense something fishy here. I don’t know what it is, but something feels off somehow. “And why is he good with guns?” I ask.

I said, and he sighed. “You know, sometimes accepting a person is not going to be bad, Nolan. Especially when it's someone like her, someone who is actually good, at least in front of us. She is good. She's not playing, she's not a hypocrite. And you know how Madeline is. She does not trust easily and she seems to enjoy her presence.” He said casually.

Jonathon's expression softened. "Your father was a very good man, indeed," Jonathon said. Renz smiled, a perfectly composed lie across his face. He tried not to grimace at the memory of the man he knew not as father, but as the violent Johann Wolfenbarger. "That he was," Renz answered. For the first time, Jonathon smiled. "I am certainly not as cunning of a businessman as he was...and I realize I do owe you a great deal...you truly have no further interest in acquiring the money?" Jonathon asked. Renz chuckled.

I hear her say to herself as she is motivating herself not realizing the call is still going. I quickly wake my brother up and point to my phone I think he gets it and I put the call on speaker as I hear her taking deep breaths trying to calm herself down. I show my brother the number he track it while looking into whose it is. It comes back to a nineteen year old Jaymes Tevin Jones. It also shows her location out of the city in the forests. "You say Mark brother's friend?" I ask I hear a small gasp I'm sure she is shocked I'm still on the call. I signal my brother to get ready. He knows to also wake up at least a few more of my guys as I go to my room and get dressed.

I found myself asking. He looked up at me, his eyes wide with surprise. He looked as though he has just seen a ghost. “Spencer…” he said hesitantly. “I’m a…” he was at a loss of words. “A friend,” Jonathan finished for him. “He’s a friend of Jessica’s.” I looked over at Jonathan with questions in my eyes; how did he know this guy? “I ran into him in Moon-Valley,” Jonathan answered my unspoken question. “We can trust him.”

I still had a few minutes left. “I know that it might be overwhelming to learn everything about your family, but it might be to your advantage.” Jonathan spoke as he leaned against the door frame. I looked up to respond but paused. Jonathan looked good. He was just wearing a pair of jeans and a long sleeve V-neck shirt, but he easily pulled it off, the shirt hugging his biceps. He wasn’t as muscular in college, and the change fit him well. “How so?” I asked, checking my hair in the mirror. It looked like the color remover was doing its job.
