It was the kind that arrived after months of training, traveling and competing. Championship tired. Sam sat across from them with an ice pack resting against his leg and Joshua pointed. "You cried." "I didn't." "You absolutely cried." "I absolutely didn't." "There were tears." "There wasn't."

I put my hand up to moton Angelo to shut up, I know he’s defending me but him doing that makes me look even more weak, and I can’t have that. “I’m not afraid to die anymore, and I’m certainly not afraid to suffer.” My eyes grow in surprise. And so, she remained on her position, sobbing until she found it hard to breathe. Joshua finally stood up. "I'll rest a bit," he said to the second and third leader. Smiling, he walked towards the entrance and met his friends. As if everything is okay, Joshua said, "I'll go and sleep for a moment." 'How can he smile like that? How is it possible for him to not shed any tears for his father?!' Celine has these thoughts while staring at the vulnerable-looking man in front. She was in rage, clenching her fists and biting the flesh inside her mouth.

My voice cracked, and I swallowed hard to keep the sobs from escaping. He reached out and gently took my hand in his. “I promise you, we’ll find him. I won’t stop until we do.” I nodded, but before I could say anything, my phone buzzed. A message. I grabbed my phone, my heart pounding violently in my chest. My hands trembled as I unlocked the screen. And then I saw it. A video. With shaky fingers, I pressed play. Josh. He was sitting on the ground, his face streaked with tears, his small body trembling. The place around him was dark, empty, like he was in the middle of nowhere. His lips quivered as he sobbed, his voice barely above a whisper.

The light-headedness set in and I felt like I’d stopped breathing. “Breathe, Allie,” coached Josh. He scooted next to me on the branch and held my face in his hands, counting me through my breaths until I felt better. “We’re never going to get out of here Josh,” I choked out through heavy sobs. “I’m so sorry I got you caught up in all this.” Josh wrapped his arms around me, cradling my head to his chest. He rubbed my back in circles and rested his chin on the top of my head. I didn’t think about pushing him away, despite what had happened earlier today.

The tears came hard and fast streaming down my cheeks and soaking into the collar of my dress. I pressed my hands to my face, trying to stifle the sobs, but they tore out of me sounding very ugly, each one a release of the pain I had been holding back. I cried for Ethan, for the way his grey eyes had made me believe in love, only to shatter it. I cried for Rachel’s cruelty, for Alex's unfair betrayal. I cried because this was the second time this video was leaking, Ethan had promised me this would never happen again but now I was turned into a public joke.

I gasped, books tumbling from my arms as I clutched the spot, tears instantly stinging my eyes. Oh god. Everyone’s looking. Everyone saw that. “Oh shit,” Josh said, but there wasn’t a single trace of apology in his voice. If anything, he sounded amused. “My bad.” He didn’t even wait a second before raising his voice, making sure everyone within earshot could hear him. “Thought you might need something hard just to finally feel anything.” His friends burst out laughing. A few of them whistled, and I could already see people pulling out their phones, angling them toward me like this was some kind of show.
