The memories of that day brought fresh tears to my eyes and my body sagged as I tried hard to muffle my cries because I didn't want anyone's attention right now. "Why are you crying my daughter? We are supposed to be celebrating right now but you are ruining the moment with your tears dear." Alpha Rodriguez's voice made me stiff for a moment. I didn't know he could hear my cry so I unwound my arms from his back and backed away, my eyes lifting to stare into his hazel ones. Alpha Rodriguez looked back at me with care in his eyes and that made the little resolution that I had inside of me break and my tears fell down from my eyes like a bucket of water.

"People are saying Carlos Reyes is still alive. What do you think about that?" Everything inside me broke like glass hitting the ground. The questions, the mean hints, and the twisted lies mixed with tiny bits of truth, it was too much. Way too much. The cold air burnt my lungs. My chest felt tight. "I—" I tried to speak, but my voice cracked. "I can't—" And then I was crying. Not the quiet tears of a strong woman, but the loud, messy sobs of someone who couldn't take it anymore. Right there, in front of twenty cameras, I fell apart.

“Shh. I’m here. I’ve got you. Cry, Kayla. Cry for him. Cry for me. Just don’t stop breathing.” I cried into his shirt. I cried until my throat was raw and my eyes burned and the tears wouldn’t come anymore. I cried for the son I’d named too late. I cried for the mother I’d never get to be. I cried for Ryder, who was holding me together with shaking hands and refusing to fall apart until I did. When the tears finally slowed, exhaustion pulled at me. The drug, the grief, the adrenaline crash. My eyelids felt like lead. “Stay,” I whispered. “Don’t leave.”

He passes out for a moment, so I grab a cup on the side and turn on the tap, filling it before throwing the cold water across his face. "Thank you" Ryder say and I tip an imaginary cowboy's hat at him. He wakes up sputtering, and when he sees Ryder, he makes a moaning noise and tries to crawl between my legs. Stomping on one of his hands until I hear his bones crack, I lean down. “You should not have taken this contract, you should not have come for my mate and her pack.” He whimpers and big, fat tears roll down his face as he looks up into Ryder's eyes and sees his death.

"No matter what happens, I will ensure that we are accepted. I would do anything for you, Rain, and I will..." The door swung open before he could finish his confessions. "I believe it's time to get out of the car!" Caden announced as he stepped out. "I guess it's time," Cody said, turning to leave the car, but I grabbed his hand and pulled him into my arms. "I can't... I can't do this," I burst into tears, unable to contain the emotions welling up inside me. "I don't know what I would do if they tried to..."

Rhodes interrupted, his voice deadly quiet now. "And you were about to terminate my child without my knowledge or consent. Do you understand what that means?" Troy had sat up on the table, his face pale and streaked with tears. He was staring at Rhodes with an expression of horror and relief and shame all mixed together. "Rhodes," he whispered. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, I didn't know what else to do—" Rhodes released the doctor with a final shove that sent him stumbling, then turned to Troy. In two steps he had his mate gathered in his arms, holding him so tightly I worried about breathing.

Potter- we will pass through then, see her in a distance? No one replied, the elders looked heartbroken too. Troy was just looking me us, Cody was playing with my t-shirt. The Lycans did come through, they stood at a distance and baby amara was smiling. Cody dropped to his knees and hugged himself, crying. I told him to say something and he said " we love you, always remember that" .. I took my mate into My arms and the Lycans took off. This time Cody's eyes where blue, he was hurting but a different type of hurting. Troy- Cody I am sorry.

"What's wrong? Does it hurt?... Rhodes, why are you..." Strangely he didn't utter even a single word but he looked down, with his face facing the ground his untold words and unexpressed emotions touched her heart. Celeste touched his face and pulled him in her arms, "Rhodes, I don't know what to say but you have me. Go ahead and cry, you can use me anyhow you want. I'm all yours." Unexpectedly, he melted in her arms. Tears escaped the corner of his eyes and he buried his face in the crook of her neck, his one arm wrapped tightly around her back while the other hand around the back of her neck.

“And Rhys – he showed up. Even when I told him not to.” The room detonated. The hockey guys slamming palms on the table. Sienna sobbing into Cole’s shoulder. Across the white cloth, Rhys didn’t move. His throat working. His grey eyes turning liquid under the chandelier light. He was looking at my brother and trying not to cry in front of twenty hockey players. But he failed. A single tear tracking down his cheekbone. He didn’t wipe it. Cole pretended not to see. Everyone pretended not to see. The room giving him the privacy his face couldn’t provide.

He didn’t know, the father he adored, the one he depended on, had already abandoned him for another son. I frantically linked with Anthony, but he blocked the mental connection. Beta told me the Alpha was praying for Lucas and had prohibited anyone from disturbing him. I couldn’t even cry anymore. His son was bleeding to death, and he was praying for another’s child. Andrew's voice became softer, as though the darkness of the forest was swallowing him, "I can hold on, Mom. Don’t worry."
