It was like getting a hold on the straw before drowning completely. Uncle Haron raised his brow curiously. "How?" "She's not a full vampire, but a half-human! If I mark her and make her a full vampire then she can be saved." I spoke so fast that I doubted if he had understood what I said. But the change in his expression showed he did. His eyes turned sharp. He looked deep in thought with one finger on his chin.

Brenden goes to find the other vets we’d been working with while I walk up and down the large barn, looking at the horses. A black thoroughbred gelding had caught my eye earlier this morning. Unsure if he’s been run through or sold yet, I head down the sea of temporary stalls and come to a dead stop just feet from his stall. A petite woman with wavy brown hair is in the holding pen with him, singing Zombie by The Cranberries. She’s holding a lead rope in one hand and a treat in the other. The woman doesn’t have to turn around for me to know who she is: Josie.

The last hour, however, has been an exercise in unusual behavior. "My liege." He placed his right arm across his chest so his folded fist touched his left shoulder and bowed briefly. The whole act lasted perhaps four seconds, but my wildcat's eyes were stuck in a cartoonist state of shock on the young vamp as if he had performed an astounding trick. "My wildcat would like to know if you are indeed waiting for us or if you are here for someone else." Josie blushed right on cue. "I'm not a wildcat. Stop calling me that." She protested with a burning face.

Later I’d give Minx a taste of the cigar burns. Later in the day, as I entered my apartment, I expected to find a weakened, scared woman. Josie was anything but. I’d also been told that Armando had secured Josie’s sister. I knew next to nothing about children. Jasmine was nothing like I envisioned. There was no way to prepare myself for the redheaded bundle of pure joy. Bracing myself for the unknown, I called out, “Josie.”

“So the boys are stuck there? Hermes too?” Arya asks, staring at the projected image of JoJo on the screen. Josefina—or JoJo, as everyone calls her—is a she-wolf I admittedly know very little about. You’d think that with all the mystical mumbo jumbo in my life from being half-witch, I’d know more about the next greatest oracle of our generation.

Actually, I was born at the end of the year. "According to my ID card, I haven't turned 20 yet! I treat her like an older sister because I'm just following Finn's example." Ambrose inquired with interest, "Born at the end of the year? So you're a Scorpio?" Larissa looked at him suspiciously, wondering since when he understood astrology. Josie had no idea it was a trap as she responded happily, "Yes, I'm a Scorpio. Are you into astrology as well? What a coincidence! I also love astrology!"

Valeria’s POV “One month and we’ve worked together… and you’re still embarrassed to receive any kind of care from me?” Josie asks incredulously, helping me sit on the couch in her office. She hands me a tissue and I use it to wipe my mouth. “You better start getting used to it now.” I smile at her, drinking the water that she offered to hopefully ease my nausea. Josie is the woman I found along the road on the way to the Human world. She’s the one who drove me there, and we have been inseparable ever since.

She sits beside me today, propping her chin in her hands, watching me silently turn another page of my territorial law book. "I swear, those pureblood wolves in the Wolf Biology Wing have your entire personality completely twisted," Josie snaps, her knuckles white against her desk. I lazily snap my textbook shut, my dark eyes turning to meet her energetic gaze. "Oh?" That calm, unyielding look from my broad face makes Josie swallow hard, a sudden flush covering her cheeks. "You aren't some arrogant ice queen like they say! You are literally just a ruthless bookworm who wants everyone to shut up!"
