“Software engineering,” I repeated, impressed despite myself. “And how is your wife and son doing? Is she here tonight? What about Lucas, did you bring him?.”
Jude threw his head back and laughed, a rich, warm sound that made a few nearby guests turn their heads. “My wife? Kesley, that was my nephew. I’m very much single.”
I felt a wave of embarrassment wash over me, my cheeks flushing a deep red. “Oh. I… I just assumed. My apologies.”
