The assistant glanced back just as the car drove into a tunnel. The man's face was hidden in the shadows, making it hard to see clearly. All she could make out was his hands resting on his knees. He casually flicked a lighter on and off. The lighter was plain silver-white, with no fancy patterns or brand names. It was just a simple, old-school flip lighter. The only thing that stood out was the orange gem at the bottom. It shone like the last glow of a sunset.

Bright light? I didn't see colors anymore, this time I could see.

We only communicate through text or call. I checked my phone but my inbox is silent as always. Light's name however is at the top and his last message is somewhat dominating my inbox. He looked at the door, then glanced back at me briefly as if he remembered something trivial, and said: "It’s easy." He slowly raised his hand. At first, nothing happened, but suddenly a faint yellow light appeared in his palm, like a small spark born in the darkness. But it didn’t stay that way; it began to grow, intensify, and become brighter until it turned into a pulsating ball of light. The light was so strong that I closed my eyes involuntarily. I felt a slight sting in them, as if the light was piercing through them.

It didn’t reveal much, just made the darkness a bit more shiny. “Is the red light compulsory?” I asked. “It’s hard to tell you apart.” I made my ball of white light go through the spectrum as a way to demonstrate. It may have come across as slightly condescending, like talking loudly at a foreigner to make them understand better. Pretty colours, though.

"Ms. Leighton, this entire diary is obviously fabricated nonsense. There's no point reading any further!" As he spoke, he pulled out his phone and tried calling me. "You little jerk! Get over here right now and explain yourself to everyone!" But how could the call possibly connect? I had already died in the hills from snake venom. The livestream comments went wild again.
