That much was obvious. ‘A Hundred Years of Solitude.’ She was only halfway through the book. It was a heavy one, and she couldn’t understand why she read it before she came back. Night time was perfect for a reading session, so she was reading seriously. Heather was the most attractive when she was quiet, and she drifted to sleep with a book in her hands that night. If there was one downside about night reading, that would be the fact that the reader would fall asleep easily.

Chapter 1: The Late Night Call My feet ached after eight straight hours shelving books and helping drunk freshmen find their textbooks. The campus library closed at midnight, and I had made the mistake of joining my coworker for one quick drink at the student bar afterward. Just enough to leave me pleasantly tipsy and giggling at nothing. “Juniper, you really should not walk home alone tonight,” I muttered to myself as I pulled out my phone on the empty sidewalk. The app loaded fast. I requested a ride and waited, hugging my coat tighter against the cool night air.

A single note was on the pillow. This is only round one. My heart slammed against my ribs. They really meant it.

Raze said wiping her tears again. “Hey, sorry to bother you two,” Daemon said coming into the room. “Speaking of the devil,” Raze chuckled making her giggle. Daemon looked at them confused then shook his head, “Anyway, um, Little One ate five chicken nuggets and some fries and drank all her apple juice. Can she have that ice cream now?” “Chocolate chip cookie dough?” Raze asked and Daemon smirked. “Oh, she’s why that’s the only flavor you will eat,” He chuckled. “Go figure.”

This night felt like something out a fairytale book. I barely knew this person. But I wanted him. I wanted him all to myself. But one thing I also knew— was that this was just a mere one night stand.

It wasn’t listed in any index. No title. No author. Just a cover etched with a symbol that made my wolf cower. A single flower and handwritten note lay beside them. “Open it,” Olivia encouraged, practically bouncing with excitement. Avery hesitated for a heartbeat, then unfolded the note. “Looking forward to tonight. — N.H.” Her cheeks warmed instantly, and she glanced at Olivia, who was practically vibrating with delight. Olivia practically squealed. “Ohhh, now we’re talking! Looks like Mr. Hale has excellent taste.” She leaned closer, eyes sparkling. “See? I told you something would show up. And it’s not just a snack or flowers—he went all out.”
