Finally, the Elder raised a single hand, and the hall hushed again, as if a blade had sliced the storm clean in half.
“Strong words,” he murmured. “But words are wind, Nicole Jackson. The Court deals in proof.”
He leaned forward, eyes like winter.
“Tell us… where does your loyalty lie? With this pack—” his gaze cut briefly to Silas, sharp as a knife point, “—or with yourself?”
The question hit harder than any blow. My throat went tight, but I didn’t flinch. Didn’t look away.
“Both,” I said. “Because if this pack falls, I fall with it. And if I fall, then none of you stand at all.”
