"I… I will leave now. I need to rest.” With that, he left without waiting for my response. I sat there in the silence and brought my hand up to my face. I closed my eyes and groaned, the sound tearing out of my chest. I was a dead man walking. I didn't know how much time had passed but the sound of the door opening again snapped my thoughts. “I have the answer now.” Justin entered. He had washed his face, maybe even taken a shower and changed into his comfy trousers. He looked better now. A little less stressed. Confident.

I squeezed my eyes shut, but even that didn’t stop the spinning. “This is propaganda!” Justin’s voice exploded through the room. “It has to be. It’s all too perfect, too coordinated. They’re trying to ruin me.” He was pacing the length of the dining room, running his hands through his hair. His chest heaved with ragged breaths. “Would it surprise me if Wendy is working with my father? Or with Sean? No! This is exactly how they operate—wait until I’m happy, wait until I’m finally moving forward, and then…” His voice broke, and he slammed his fist on the edge of the table. The plates rattled. “…then they take it all away.”
