It was meant to be both beauty and safety. Kara pressed her lips together, suppressing the urge to roll her eyes. One minute he was gentle; the next, he was commanding. It was like he didn’t know how to stay in one mood for long. “Can’t you just get me something else?” she asked quietly, looking down at her hand. “Maybe a bracelet? Something simple. This ring was made here, and people might start asking questions about how I got it. It’s beautiful, but too loud.” Jairo let out a quiet breath. He was about explaining the purpose and the meaning behind the ring, but Kara didn’t let him.
