Kaden had been MIA since breakfast and it was late, I hadn’t seen him. I sensed his presence as I flipped to the next page, pretending to read. “Work?” I asked, not looking up from the book. He answered gruffly. I guessed the old grumpy Kaden was back. He crouched down in front of me and I looked up at him immediately. “What are you reading?” he asked, putting his hands on my thigh. I was all hot all over again. “Just a book I saw lying around the place.” He glanced at the book then back at me, his eyes dark and unreadable. “Is it good?”

When my shift ended, I found myself walking toward the corner table where Kael sat, his laptop closed now, a book in his hands. He just syphons out the information that is of relevance to tell me and Jake, so we wait with bated breath for him to talk again. Nikita huffs and leaves again, going back to the kitchen in a strop.
