TRAPPED IN THE DARK CASTLE
“Fine. I’ll sit.”
The corners of his mouth twitched—relief disguised as annoyance—but he didn’t comment. He sat first, placing a heavy, leather-bound book on the table. I sat across from him, my hands resting carefully in my lap.
For a moment, neither of us spoke.
The candles flickered.
The silence stretched.
And something fragile settled between us.
“What are you reading?” I asked softly.
“A collection of ancient clan treaties,” he said.
“That sounds… complicated.”
“It is,” he replied. “Though not as complicated as you.”
