Birdsong, forest mist, luxury, sexual confusion. The full package. I throw my legs over the edge of the bed and shuffle toward the bathroom determined to regain some dignity. That lasts all of ten seconds as I take in the tub. It was carved for rich people to host yacht parties inside. It’s enormous, sunken into pale stone flooring beside a wall of windows overlooking the trees. Steam curls softly from water already running, which means one of them prepared it before I woke up. There were two bowl sinks behind a wide square mirror in the spacious bathroom, which was further adorned with more striking lightning. There was a stand-up shower and a stand-still tub at least a few meters apart. I was feeling around the marble surfaces when all of a sudden I remembered turning on the water in my father's small country flat and myself.
