The Mage's Heart
Sing, Siorin.
I coughed my throat clear as the dragon dove again, his claws passing so close I was not surprised to see he carried away a ribbon like a lover’s token on his claws. I began the lilting tune of ill-fated love, feeling the magic winding itself into the song five lines in, raising my voice above the rush of air of his wings as he dived by for a third time.
In the next lull, as he stroked his wings, rising high, high into the air, Florien untied himself from my hair and made his way back into the safety of my pocket. I wished I could do likewise.
