Keisha looked down. Even Ryker’s face became somber. “I’m sorry, Selene,” Kael said quietly. “Sera didn’t make it. Callum either.”

A girl opened the door with a smirk. Inside, she reached for her wine glass— But it got snatched midair. "Hailey, my brother said no drinking!" Hailey blinked, sighed, and took the water glass instead. "How'd I manage to ditch annoying Kayden but still get stuck with you?" Serena Kingsley winked.

Hearing the commotion our fathers appeared standing in the doorway to the library with Elder Johnathan at their side. “Are you going to tell them or arm I!” Everyone present could taste the venom in the air as Layla bought Kaylee’s face closer to hers, her grip on her neck tightening. I expected Kaylee to flinch but nothing. There was no look of fear on her at all. “Tell them what? I don’t know what you’re talking about your crazy bitch!” Snarling Layla’s claws extended piercing into Kaylee’s flesh. “She isn’t your mate Kai she’s the daughter of Hades! She’s Cleo’s half-sister.” Turning to look my brother in the eye I could see his wolf stirring.

He stepped toward me with his hand reaching for my face. “Your eyes are a rare azure blue and stormy silver. Like a gem. It must be hard to go around with eyes like those, and hair with that tint in it.” He grabbed a strand of my hair, and looked at it. His face was in awe, but also had a hint of wonder. What was he thinking? “My name is Layla. What is yours?” I asked again, trying to get an answer. He was still looking at my hair. “Theodore..” He dropped my hair, and stepped back.

Ivy stared up at him and said nothing. Finally, Tyler waved Kade over. The Beta family was carefully loading Lana into the back of the car, moving with the utmost caution. Tyler pulled Kade close. “Will you take Serena to Crescent Hollow?” he asked. Kade nodded. “Yeah.” Tyler licked his lips and gestured to the healer. “Kade,” he said, “this is Jayne. Elena’s mentor.” Kade’s brows shot up. “You’re the one who trained Elena?” he asked.

Kate POV “I Challenge Katelyn Adams for the Alpha title of the Golden Moon Pack!”. I couldn’t believe what I had heard. It was resonating through my mind, without fully comprehending. Looking into the crowd I wait for the voice to come forward. It’s familiar but with the crowd who jumped up loudly the voice was lost in the crowd.

My girl had a sweet tooth and the audacity to call it “refined taste.” She looked up as I approached, her eyes catching the light in that stupidly pretty way that still made my breath stutter sometimes. “You come bearing gifts,” she said, reaching for the sugary concoction with a grin that melted the last of my tension. “Peace treaty,” I said, sitting beside her and pressing a kiss to her forehead. “How’s the chaos?” “Manageable,” she replied, bumping her shoulder into mine. “Lorelai declared herself queen of the garden. Jade and Lex are now her official royal painters.”

“Then stop treating me like—” “Not now.” The edge in my voice cut through whatever she was about to say. Good. We didn’t have time for this. The woman stopped a few feet from the gate. Close enough to speak. Far enough to stay safe. Smart. “Alpha Kael,” she said. Not a question. A statement. I didn’t react. “You have the advantage of me,” I replied. “State your name.” She smiled slightly. “Dr. Elara Voss.” Human.

The contrast of her—soft, warm, and expressive—against the darkness of the underground fighting world made her look like something otherworldly. And for some goddamn reason, Kane liked hearing her talk. Which was new. He pulled off his hoodie, leaving him in his fitted white t-shirt. He heard her inhale sharply, her green eyes flickering to his exposed arms, where ink covered his skin. The dim lighting in the car made her red hair shine. He smirked as he started the car. "So, uhmm..." she cleared her throat, shifting in her seat. "How old are you?" Kane kept his eyes on the road. "Twenty-nine. You?"
