His Plaything
"Look, I just thought I'd do you a favour. The way Dante's screwing with your life? Even I think it's excessive."
My jaw clenched. "So you do know what he's doing to me."
"Yeah, and trust me, it'll only get worse," he muttered, drumming his fingers against the wheel.
"How do you know that?" I swallowed hard. "Why are you telling me this?"
Keith glanced at me through the rearview mirror. "Because I don't think you deserve it."
That took me by surprise. I studied him warily, my brain still wired for danger.
Keith wasn't exactly the first person I'd peg as a knight in shining armour. Our first meeting had been anything but charming. Yet now, here he was, talking like he actually gave a damn.
