I did a quick prayer and stood up. I felt an excruciating pain in my lower back as soon as I stood up. That was my body complaining that I had sat for too long. I swung my backpack on my right shoulder and with my left hands placed delicately on my waist behind, I walked to the door with gentle limps. Once outside the basement, I was welcomed with fresh and cool air. Sighing with content, I took a deep breath.

They must be really close. "Arghhh," I groaned in pain and almost screamed his name. I felt a sharp pain on my back. My vision began to blur, my head felt heavy, accompanied by a splitting headache. I didn't know if it was the pain on my back or the fever that had come back, but I knew I was not okay at all. "I'm almost done. Stay here. I'm coming back," he gave me a warning glare before he left the room. I placed my head down, and my memories began to recall the event in the wholesale hall. I wondered where that crazy lady would be now.

My limbs feel heavier, but in a different way. “How do you feel?” she asks. “Strange,” I admit, pressing a hand to my sternum. The ache that has been clawing at my insides for days begins to dull, just slightly. “I think it is working,” she whispers. But the heaviness increases. My eyelids feel weighted. “You look tired,” she says softly. “I am not tired,” I start to argue, but my voice comes out slower than intended. She guides me toward the bed. “Lie down.”

LAYLA'S POV I lie on our mat clutching my head willing the pounding at the back of my skull to go away. I can feel something round with sharp edges pressing under my lower back but after being put to work all day long I feel like my backbone will snap too if I make a move of getting up again. Whatever It is, it might as well remain there until morning.

Another part wondered if the board had been right to choose him. The heat started that evening. It began as a low ache in my lower back, similar to what I had felt in the boardroom but stronger. I ignored it at first and tried to review more documents. Within an hour the ache became a deep burning need that spread through my entire body. Sweat soaked through my shirt. What the fuck...is happening...I close my eyes again, wanting to get back to sleep, but something wet and cold splashes over me, putting my senses into attention. I open my eyelids, the pain intensifying. It is coming from the back of my head.

It's a little tough to put on because the back has a long zipper that needs to be lifted by someone else. I can't reach my back but I try everything I could but I feel like my arms were going to fell off because of too much numbness right now. "Here." I was shocked when I felt someone fixed it from behind me.

Better to let the night die quietly than feed it with reckless words. I stared at the ceiling with a chaotic mind until I slept off. *** When I woke the next morning, I felt a sharp throbbing pain pulse at the back of my skull. My head felt like it carried seventy bags of cement, each one pounding against my brain. A headache. Maybe from the alcohol, tension, or probably from both. Groaning softly, I swung my legs out of bed and stood up; the room was tilting slightly as I reached for the glass of water on my lampstand. The water barely helped. My throat still felt dry, and my body was heavy.

Kiera returned to her senses slowly. Pain was the first thing she felt. She couldn't even open her eyes because the back of her head was on fire and her neck was stiff. There was a heavy weight on top of her, there had to be. Why else couldn't she move? Something wasn't right. She felt threatened.
