Nora settled back against her pillow with a satisfied smile, and I folded my hands in my lap and waited. Kieran cleared his throat. He began reading in his normal voice, low and even, and for the first page or so, I thought maybe Nora had exaggerated. But then he got to the first line of dialogue, and without any preamble, a deep, rumbling voice came out of him that made me blink in surprise. “‘Well, little hedgehog,’” he read, “‘if you go out in that storm, I’ll tell your mother, and you won’t get any acorns for a week!’”

Right? "How about Wonder Woman book?" Kevin's question was like my savior because it attracted Martha's interest. "I have a Wonder Woman book here. Do you want this?" He offered while thrusting the book toward her. Martha stared at the book. And it felt like the longest few seconds of silence I had encountered lately. And it paid when she nodded and took the book from Kevin's hand. "Thank you, Uncle." "Do you want me to read it for you?" She nodded again, and now both of them were walking toward the corner.

“I want the two of you to hold on to it together and read it aloud.” “That’s all?” Kendra asked, a look of relief briefly flitting across her features. Well, that seemed easy enough? “Yes… I believe that should do it.” With a slow nod and a deep gulp, Kendra stood up from her stool and closed the distance between her and Killian. She was suddenly nervous, and yet… she couldn’t ignore her body’s slow stirring to his closeness. Memories of the previous night tried to flood her senses and she loudly cleared her throat to rid herself of them.
