It was by a window that looked out onto the pedestrianised area of the high street, and the edges of the hanging basket flowers hung over the edge of the glass, bordering the scene with pale purple and bold yellow petals.
As I put my cup down on the old, worn wooden table, nestling it in beside a spider plant and a selection of succulents, I realised what I’d failed to notice as I’d caught Susie’s scent.
“Do – do we not have to pay?” I frowned.
Skye smiled. “Susie is a – well, she’s an old family friend, like she said, but, uh–“
“She’s part of your pack,” I interjected, hoping I’d used the word correctly.
