Like it was 2003. Cutting the last box open and restocking the shelf of cereals, I wiped my hands on my jeans, shoved the cutter into the back pocket of my apron, and walked toward the front of the store. Susie was at the counter, chewing on a pen cap while watching the tiny TV above the register. The volume of the TV was really low so I barely heard what she was looking at and nor was I really interested to be honest. My boots squeaked against the linoleum as I came up behind her, and I was just about to say bye when my eyes caught a flurry of movement and the text "ARCTIC BLADES." on the TV.

I asked her, waiting to hear something interesting. "Trust me! I always and I would always add life to the dead castle! Of course I had a little bickering with Brenda. She is such a good companion, she got irritated by everything I did. She looked like she could swallow me and throw me up out in the ocean, her growing hatred is like burning fire," Susie said with a roll of her eyes. She did know how to do one thing very well. She did know how to piss people off. It was some sort of super power.

Kurt said, putting up his hand. “And you are? A friend of Missy’s,” Christine asked, looking at Susie. “I am a member of her pack,” Susie said, matter of fact, then disappeared. “What just--” Christine started to say. Susie reappeared with a hat that had the station’s name on it. “I should fit in better now huh,” she said, smiling and showing some pointy teeth, making Christine jump. I squeezed Ryan’s hand, seeing her teeth. Holy crap!! I needed to have a very real conversation with Susie soon about all … that.

“And Katie and Lance.” “Right. Them, too.” Joey shook his head. “Sis, she’s just a friend.” “Really?” Sue asked, narrowing her eyes. “She’s good at first person shooters,” Joey told her. “Our friendship was meant to be.” “Okay,” Sue said, figuring that she wasn’t going to get much more out of Joey. She thought about going to take a shower, to start getting ready for the night ahead, but honestly, she didn’t want to think about it.

I teased playfully. "I wanted to surprise you," she retorted with a cheeky grin. "Hey, everyone, this is my friend, Susie Morris, from the Red Moon pack. Please make her feel welcome," I introduced. Both Mr. Wilson and Mrs. Wilson warmly greeted Susie, but strangely, she completely ignored them and fixed her gaze on Abel. Her expression seemed as if she had discovered something she had never seen before. I followed her gaze, feeling puzzled, and saw that Abel's expression was equally peculiar, as if he had found a precious gem, his eyes burning with intense desire. After a moment's thought, I had a startling conjecture: they were mates!

One thing was even clearer now, to try as much as possible to avoid Levi Grey and finish up with the work she was there to do. “Kat” Kat heard a voice whisper. “It's me, Susie.” She whispered again, signaling to Kat. “Hi, Susie,” Kat whispered back, bending behind her table. “I wanted to ask if you wouldn't mind joining us for dinner after work.” “Not at all. That would be lovely.” She said with a smile. Susie winked with a big smile and continued with her work. “Oh my gosh!” Kat screamed in shock as she sat up to find someone by her table.

“Don’t mind, Susie. She’s always like this.” “Oh, I don’t mind. She was being kind to me,” I retort, giving Susie an apologetic smile. “Really? She hasn’t asked you to organize a meeting with Tori yet?” She asks. Susie, who lowers her head, blinking her eyes, eyes shimmering. “No, we were just having a normal conversation. Is that a problem?” Jenna shrugs, bringing her glass of wine to her bright red lips. “It’s not. It’s good people like you are getting along well.”

“I’ll have some sent up to your room too, Luna. It’s better to eat first thing in the morning. It helps.” “Thanks, Susie. Is Christy here this morning?” Kennedy asks. “She is, Luna. She’s in the back. She asked to stay in the kitchen today and Beta Arianna put her on stocking duty,” she says, looking behind her. “She made sure it was easy duty, but it gives her something to do,” she whispers. “Will you let her know I’d like to speak with her after breakfast?” Kennedy asks. “I will Luna. It’s so good to have you back,” Susie says, squeezing Kennedy’s free hand before getting back to breakfast preparation.

Sara's eyes scanned the room we had just exited, curiosity etched on her face. "I'm not sure, but she said she had information about Leo." "What about him?" "I'm not sure, let's find Susie first and then we can find out what she has to say." We found Susie in the courtyard, her eyes red and puffy. Without hesitation, we sat ourselves on either side of her, before wrapping our arms around her. Susie, had never been a fan of hugs, but this time, she couldn't escape it. She would never admit it, but I knew she needed it just as much as I did.
