The Devil Who Owes Me A Kiss
There was a long silence, and when Verity spoke again, her voice was thick with tears.
“I was so frightened. Not of you, never of you, but of myself. Of the idea of being responsible for someone else’s happiness when I wasn’t even sure what would make me happy. I thought I needed to find myself first, to accomplish something on my own before I could be worthy of the kind of love you were offering.”
Another pause, and then Verity’s voice again, barely audible:
“I was wrong. I was so terribly, tragically wrong. You don’t find yourself by running away from love—you find yourself by embracing it, by letting it teach you who you’re meant to be.”
