But Francis, a vampire hunter accustomed to vampires moving fast, was faster. He shot Kaya down, one arrow in each of her shoulders, and then a final one into her heart. The precision of his shot was frightening for how far away he was, hidden on a rooftop of an opposite building. Kaya coughed once, twice, and yielded blood from her both the third time. I move closer to Kodiak who whimpers and shuffles closer until her nose touches Rosa’s foot. “Rosa, I’m sorry I scared you.” Kodiak rumbles as she looks at her distressed pup. I clutch Rosa tighter as she moves her head and looks at Kodiak. I see her eyes flash to white, then back to green. I move to my bum with Rosa in my lap as she looks at Kodiak.
