Suddenly, Roberto called out from the darkness. "Captain Terry!" His voice was sharp, cutting through the stillness of the night as figures began to emerge from the surrounding trees. Captain Terry, a hardened guerrilla leader known for his ruthlessness, stepped forward, flanked by his men. They had come running at the sound of the explosions, ready to assist. Terry’s sharp eyes immediately took in the situation—the defeated Japanese soldiers, the bodies strewn about, and the few captives still alive. His jaw clenched with grim satisfaction.

The crow of chaos rose. Guards screamed orders. Chains rattled. Vera, half-blinded by pain, forced herself to stand. The wolf’s breath filled her lungs. She turned and sprinted through the broken door, hearing shouts behind her. Stone corridors, a flash of torch, another collapsed guard. She vanished into the night. --- Sheltered at last in the chapel’s inner sanctum, Vera collapsed against a shattered altar. Gavriel knelt beside her, hands trembling as he tried to bandage her scraped knees with a scrap of cloth.

CHAPTER 19 My gaze lifted slowly to the one who dared speak Diego Herrera. Mid-50s. Arrogant. Wealthy. But stupid. His fingers tapped nervously, a subtle tell that he wasn’t as confident as he pretended to be. My voice dropped low and slow. My words slipped! “But you never called my name, not even once, Serra. Also, I won’t forever be by your side. You should learn to protect yourself.” He threw a small and thin book at me. THE GUERRA ESTATE ~ SPAIN Gabriella burst into her father’s study at the Guerra estate. Her hair was messy, her makeup streaked, and her eyes were wild with anger. “He humiliated me!” she yelled. “He threw me out like trash!” She didn’t wait for Esteban to respond. “Alejandro had his guards drag me out and throw me into the street!” she cried. “For her! For that American nothing!” Esteban Guerra sat behind his black-marble desk, calm and silent. His silver hair was perfectly combed, his face unreadable, his cold blue eyes fixed on the papers in front of him.
