Familiar, dangerous and deliciously tempting.
George looked away first.
Later, in the armory, the tension followed them like a shadow.
“You’re pushing them hard,” George said, watching Liam check the balance of a blade.
“They’ll need it,” Liam replied. “The borders are restless.”
George stepped closer. Too close. The scent of steel and sweat mingled with something warmer, something achingly familiar.
“You don’t trust the peace,” George said.
“I trust nothing that relies on Lucien’s restraint,” Liam answered. Then, softer, “Or on lies.”
