I felt a strange wave of pity for whoever had to dust this office, it was probably terrifying to clean things that were so valuable looking. The desk was absolutely massive and dark black. The term Alison used when he did a video tour for my sister-in-laws was Glam. You’d not know this was supposed to be an office outside of the mirror with metallic silver borders and tapered legs, the writing desk centered in front of a row of windows. It’s like that one little area was reserved for the office. He has the mirror desk, a blue velvet tufted back desk chair, two blue silver velvet tufted lounge chairs, and a couple of bookcases for storage anchored by an abstract black and gray area rug defining the office section in the middle of the room.

At the end of the day he just passed my desk (which is situated just outside his office) and left without acknowledging my existence on his way out. I do love my desk though. It’s spacious and unique. The top is made of lilac-stained glass. It’s got an apple monitor and mouse sitting on a cute knit mouse pad with a white keyboard. It’s a phone stand and a laptop stand. A pink cup for pens and highlighters. A desk lamp and a desk clock next to a flower vase I put peonies in. It has three drawers with lilac handles and a purple ergonomic chair completes it. It’s very girly and feminine and I’m sure Mr. Griffin just paid an interior designer to do it but I still love it.

The Delft plates lined the top shelf, their blue and white pattern still vibrant, and the inscription around the rim in ancient Gothic font still a mystery. The irony wasn’t lost on her. Inside, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves groaned under leather spines. A massive oak desk dominated the center, neat stacks of papers on one side, a sleek Mac on the other. One tall window overlooked the quad, blinds half-drawn so late afternoon light cut golden stripes across the floor. Blackwood closed the door. The lock clicked. “Sit,” he ordered. Kenzie perched on the edge of the visitor chair instead, crossing her legs so the skirt rode higher. “I’d rather stand for my execution.”
