The motor sounded like it was something straight out of a movie and as Liam pulled out, I found myself giggling. It was a short drive to town hall and the library archive. I'd never been inside the old brick building, but always thought it was cool. Huge white pillars flanked the entrance, the cliché clock ticking away at the pinnacle. The main library, a more modern, concrete structure, stood across the street. But Liam informed me the information I needed was in the older stacks, still housed on the second floor of the municipal building. It felt so small town USA my mood stayed happy until we passed through the main doors.

I had a lot of stares from the pack and a lot of heads being nodded in my direction. “They bow to the queen of the south!” echoed forcibly in my head. “OKKKKKKK. Let’s rein that ego in.” My wolf huffed in reply but did no such thing, if anything she puffed out her chest more just to annoy me. I inwardly groaned. Today was going to be a challenge in more ways than one. The library doors were a light oak wood with glass panels that had intricate floral designs of green and gold inlaid onto them. Lou asked looking at Cash in an almost defiant manner. “How do you know the books are no longer here?” Cash asked as he flipped through the little card holder. “Let's just call it a hunch.” Lou said glancing at all the shelves around us. “If that is the case, there are only a handful of people who have access to this library without permission, and I will take care of them.” He turned to leave, taking one last flip through the rolodex before calmly setting it on the shelf. I started to wonder who was the wolf that played a hand in it.

Chloe asked as they passed a series of tall windows that let in the soft glow of the moon. “Not always,” Leo replied. “I bought the place a few years ago. It was... a fresh start, I guess.” Chloe nodded, sensing the weight behind his words but choosing not to press. “It has a nice feel to it,” she said instead. They reached a set of double doors, and Leo pushed them open to reveal the library. Chloe inhaled deeply, the unmistakable scent of aged paper and polished wood filling her senses. “This is incredible,” she said, her voice soft with awe. “I can’t even imagine how many books are in here.”

I shook my head at the pair of them. A couple of minutes later Greg Henderson came into the cell. “It’s all set, boss,” he said to Tommy and Tommy nodded. He turned to me. “I had him set up the library,” he said. “It’s soundproof and has wards in place so we know who goes in and out. I believe your witch girl can seal it fully once we are in there.” Smart, I thought. I had no idea that the library was warded, but it made sense as all the Divine Order journals that the pack had were in there.

Alanza’s POV “You think a couple of extra locks will keep me out?” Libbie says, her voice trailing in before she even clears the doorway. I can’t help but laugh as she finally enters.
