The only one left behind was the gaping hole Aurelia who was still looking at me with a blank expression. “I really don’t have anything to say to you ▇▇▇▇▇. I knew you were pathetic but this is even lower for you. Forgetting your past won’t erase what happened. Your past will always be the same. No matter how hard you ignore it.” With those words, she left as well. I was alone with the dark space still being held by the figure who was rubbing at my back.

My heart tugs, everyone truly does grow up and let the big wide world slowly devour them up and never once do they look back or try to stop themselves from growing because it's what we're meant to do, anyway. I know one thing though. I know that I left a lot of things behind. From my past. I left a lot and right now, one of the things that I left is here, sitting in front of me looking completely over everything, done with this cruel world we live in. I was selfish when I left, I knew that too. And that was one of the reasons I wanted to go back now, to find out everything but still, I would keep my distance because some things were just too broken and hard to fix and build again.

Part of the reason why I held goodbyes in very high regard was because I knew how the pain of being left behind without one felt. Leaving someone behind without any goodbye was abandoning them, it was telling them that they didn’t matter enough, matter enough to be told goodbye or any farewell. I sat on the table and the voices inside my head began ringing loudly. All the laughter that had been thrown my way came back. The memories came back in clear vivid flashes that I couldn’t avoid. ‘‘Fatrez, Fatrez, uhh…’’ I held my head to keep the voices out and it was unsuccessful.

Because when someone you love wakes up and walks away without a word…It feels a whole lot like being left behind. And I had no idea why.

Officially closing out the search. There’s one last box. Small. Unmarked, except for a single word on the lid. It just says, “Later.” I think, after everything, it might finally be time to open it.

I did not tell him I had no intention of doing that. I had barely ended the call when Serafina came back. She slipped an arm around my waist from behind and asked, “What were you booking?” I forced myself to stay calm. “An opera ticket I bought before I was admitted. I missed it, so I asked for a refund.” “I see.” She studied me for a second. “Then why did you leave the hospital on your own? I went back to your room and thought something had happened.” I was about to answer when the bedroom door opened.

“I will come back when it is done.” He left. The door closed quietly behind him. I stood alone in the center of the space, the bond fully awake, the weight of his words still present. The past had produced a name. The present had already rewritten the terms. And the space between them had become something neither of them could take back.

Chapter 2: The Beginning --- Still at Alexander Kingston’s mansion, Elena felt quite puzzled when she was led walking quite far toward the back of the mansion, where there was something like a small house near the garden. Its location was almost close to the small forest that indeed stood behind the mansion. When she turned to look behind her, Elena could clearly see from a distance that Alexander was still standing behind the glass wall of the study, as if wanting to make sure that Elena would enter the room that would become her place in that mansion.

Alessia picked it up. Her name was written on it. Again. Another message. Another secret. She opened it slowly. Inside was a photograph. Her. Lorenzo. Six years ago. The night everything ended. But this was not a photograph she had ever seen. Because in the background stood someone else. Someone who had witnessed their final goodbye. Someone who knew the truth. On the back of the photograph were six words: You left because they made you. Alessia's hands began to shake. Lorenzo looked at the photograph.
