The walls had handmade shelves built onto them, all holding dozens upon dozens of thick, tall books. It was at least a thousand books, spanning across a room the size of an average American classroom I would say. "Wow." I breathe, moving towards the books and running a finger across the spines. I pull out a random book. It's large, probably a foot either way. Made of thick leather binding and heavy, creamy colored pages.

I finally said, staring at her with every inch of annoyance in me. “How many hours are we going to take to read these books; it will take an eternity,” I growled, staring at how many books were right in front of me. “They are 50 books in total with 400 pages each. It will take us through the night if we read each book at a speed of 13 minutes. “You are crazy, Clara,” I said almost immediately while glaring at her. I mean, that's not even achievable, “that goal isn't realistic,” I finally voiced out while staring at her.

Ed observed Ruby selecting a novel yesterday. "Yes, I like thick ones. They last longer, but that also depends on the storyline. The excitement of the story determines its duration. I once finished a book over a thousand pages long in three days because it was thrilling, but there's one very thin book I still haven't finished because it's boring. I always fall asleep while reading it." Ruby explained it at length, forgetting her intention to be cautious. It had been a long time since she talked about books with anyone, so she easily got carried away. Usually, she would discuss books—or anything—with her mother, which was no longer possible.

Cain flips open the green book in his hand and Safira opens the one in hers. They stare at me and I smile sheepishly before walking over to one of the shelves and picking up the first green book I see. I smirk as I walk back to my seat. “What are the odds that I picked the book the librarian was telling us about?” Cain chuckles. “There are over one hundred green leather-bound books in here, different shades and different sizes, so let’s say the chances are pretty slim. The book is probably thicker than that.” Safira nods. “A history of Lycan and werewolf magics sounds like something that lives in a thick tome. Probably weighs a few pounds.”

I sit for a while, swim some, no Charene, and Sean is still in the stable yard, so back to my room. Sitting in the chair I stare at the bookshelves. Something isn't right. There are hundreds of books and the whole thing must be fifteen feet long. Wait, fifteen feet? I get up and pace the length of the shelves, fourteen, actually. I go out to the first little bedroom and pace its depth. Only eight feet deep and the hallway is three feet wide. Holy shit, there's something behind those books.

I stepped inside and stopped without thinking. The room was enormous. Towering shelves stretched higher than the palace balconies, disappearing into shadows near the ceiling. Wooden ladders rested against them, while narrow walkways connected the upper levels. Thousands upon thousands of books filled every shelf. Some looked newer than others, but many appeared older than the empire itself. Sunlight streamed through tall windows, painting golden lines across the polished floor. For a long moment I simply stared. It was astounding. “I’ve never seen so many books.” Magnus looked around the room with quiet pride. “The Imperial Archives hold nearly eight hundred years of records.”
