Third Wheel
“Honey, I am so sorry. You shouldn’t have had to do that on your own.”
“I wasn’t alone. Taylor and the twins were here. They helped me,” Jackson admits.
Elizabeth sits on my bed, a hand on Jackson’s and one brushing Carter’s blue cap.
Jackson continues, “Kennedy passed away about 7:30 tonight. I asked for her organs to be harvested, hoping to help others. Kennedy would have wanted it that way.”
The sight of tears in Jackson’s eyes cripple me. I cannot stand to see him relive this entire day. I know letting out his emotions, talking about it, and having loved ones near will help us mourn. It hurts; the pain is still fresh.
