“*You* do the same thing.” “That’s different.” “How?” Levi doesn’t answer right away. Instead, he closes the space between us, his presence sharp and overwhelming. I feel his frustration, his exhaustion. And something else. Something dangerous. LEVI: Life is really kicking my ass harder than I can imagine. First, I lost Kookie from being foolish. Then, I lost my father, and now my mother has cancer? It’s like, what next will life take from me? Because I have nothing. At this point, I couldn’t care less, and I didn’t give two shits what it wanted to do next.

Levi’s voice broke through my thoughts. I turned. He was standing near the doorway, sleeves rolled up, calm like nothing in this world could disturb him. His gaze fixed on me. “Nervous already,” he said. “Aren't you?” My fingers tightened slightly in my palms. But I smiled. “Just a little.” Levi stepped closer, placed his hands on my shoulders. “Don't be,” he said in determination. “I promise I would be a good father to your kids.” I cupped his cheeks. “I know you will.”

I asked. Levi glanced at the time on his watch and then at me, " it's time i go home, but…. I really don't want to leave and I know soon enough my mom or dad will call, just like your Dad did. But before they do, I'll call first, " Levi pulled out his phone and placed it on speaker. " Hi Mom" " Where are you, i was about calling"

Levi asks, his curious gaze sliding between her and I. She looks back up at me as we respond with a “no” in unison. Levi’s eyes narrow on me for a moment, then he turns to the girl and flashes her a wide smile as he extends a hand. “Hi. I’m Levi.” I’ve seen that slick smile of his work on lots of women. Levi’s a good looking guy- tall, built, tousled black hair and striking green eyes- but above all, he knows how to turn on the charm. Dude pulls almost as much tail as I do.

To breathe and calm down, so I could tell him what had happened. “Alpha---,” I breathed, trying to get a hold of myself. But the second I heard him, my voice started trembling again. My throat closed and I couldn’t speak. Shit! How pathetic is this? He dipped me suddenly—deep enough to steal my breath—then pulled me back up like it was nothing. "Why the fuck are you so good at this?" "My mom made me learn," Levi said. "Now I finally get to show off a bit." "Show off what?"

Her hands flew to her mouth, her manicured nails digging into her skin. Lily felt a sudden, fierce surge of adrenaline. The fear that had been paralyzing her only moments ago vanished, replaced by a cold, burning clarity.
