Carlo's POV: ‘That would have been boring.’ The asshole said casually, his lips curling into a smile. I still couldn't recognize him, so I couldn't exactly why he was doing this—not like I gave a fuck about that, I was just here for the girls. Levi scoffed and said, “Lex, is this reverse psychology? Are you really that eager to see me and Philip fight so that you can reap the benefits?” After saying this, Levi threw the teapot in his hand to the ground, got up, and pointed at Lex. He said angrily, “Good for you, Lex Clarke! I’ve never seen you this way before. You’ve always kept a low profile in the branch family. I didn’t expect you to have such lofty ambitions too!”

Leo yelled on the phone, but there was no reply afterwards. "Micheal?" He called again, and stared at his phone to ensure the call was still ongoing. "Hey, brother." Leo's heart thumped against his rib cage as he heard the voice. He widened his eyes in shock, waiting for the voice again. "I guess I must have startled you, right?" He heaved deeply. "I didn't do it, Levi. I swear to God, I have nothing to do with her disappearance." Levi scoffed and afterwards laughed aloud.

Levi rushed down the hall, silently praying Layla hadn’t seen the video yet. But luck wasn’t on his side. The moment he opened the door, Chris’s voice came loud and clear from the phone’s speaker. Levi’s heart sank. He did his best to play dumb. “What are you watching, Miss Xander?” Layla didn’t answer. She kept her head down, staring at the phone in her hands. As Levi approached, he noticed her hands trembling. Gently, he reached over and took the phone from her. “You shouldn’t be watching things like this. You need rest. I’ll hold onto the phone for now.”

She could feel Levi’s intent gaze on her without even looking his way. She cleared her throat. “That she does. Lots of memories.” Dani turned on The Highway on Sirius XM to avoid her mind going down that path. Chris Stapleton’s Tennessee Whiskey played. The bluesy country loosened her tight muscles and she began to hum under her breath. A few beats later, a gravely baritone added its sound to the rifts about sweet Strawberry Wine and glasses of smooth brandy. The chorus poured smoothly out of Levi as if he and Stapleton harmonized every day. She was amazed. She had never heard Levi sing and his grown up voice was deep and full of feeling.
