Liam was still on his lap, snoring peacefully, his head slumped on his shoulders. Unconsciously, Luke's hand moved to his hair and began to stroke it. Luke felt at peace. Liam glanced cautiously out the window, then leaned in, his face flushing as he whispered, his voice barely a breath, "Um, Elara, do you know what kind of guys Clara likes?" I paused. Seeing Liam's shy, hopeful expression, I felt a pang of sympathy. So Liam had a crush on Clara. A pity. It was a love destined to be unrequited. Clara's heart belonged to Kaiden. I patted his shoulder sympathetically. "Buddy," I said earnestly, "there are plenty of other fish in the sea." Seeing the tragic look on my face, Liam assumed he had no chance, and the light in his eyes dimmed.

The sound of glass rattled through the room. “Why are you doing this, Liam?” Lucian hissed. Why did you help Claire to kidnap Aaric?” For a moment, there was nothing but only the rain outside and the sharp sound of Liam chuckling under his breath. “You think I did this?” Liam said softly, his eyes dark, almost amused. “Lucian, I may be many things, but I don’t deal in kidnappings.”

His expression unreadable. Ava quickly gave Liam a subtle look. Liam caught on immediately and, without missing a beat, turned on the charm. “Sweetheart,” he said loudly, smiling like a seasoned flirt, “where should we go after this?” Just as he spoke, Alexander passed them, eyes cold as ice, heading straight to the balcony. Liam played the part well, but inside, he was still a bundle of nerves. He couldn’t help but wish he had Tom’s jawline or Alexander’s effortless presence. Maybe then, Ava would actually look at him that way—for real.
