When they noticed me, they fell silent.
“You’re late,” Lena said softly, though there was no reproach in her tone, only gravity.
“I needed a moment,” I admitted. My hands twisted together, but I forced them still. “Tell me what you need from me.”
The sisters exchanged a glance before Lena stepped forward. In the firelight, her face was more lined than I’d ever seen, exhaustion written deep. “The circle requires balance. Earth, fire, air, water and spirit. That’s where you come in, Luna. You’re the spirit. The bond between this pack and its Alpha. Between this world and the Other.”
