He simply walks to the fire pit beside the porch, strikes the lighter, and drops the book into the flames. I can only watch. Orange fire curls around the cracked leather spine. The pages blacken and fold into themselves. My throat is too tight to speak. My chest aches, but I don't move. If I fight him now, he might take back the only permission I've won today. Dad's hands shake the whole time. They shake so badly the lighter clicks three times before the flame finally catches. Then, just before the last page turns to ash, I see it.

Both of his hands were now placed on her waist whilst the cigarette that created such a precious moment between the two burned to death on the ground. It glowed orange. From where I sat, I could not make out what the source was that produced the light, but soon enough, I found out. The light grew brighter as it seemed to move towards the bar and sure enough, it slipped through the bars of his cell to reveal fire. That was it, fire. When the flames spread through the bars, they regrouped on the free side to make a ball. It illuminated the path it followed and slowly approached me. The only strength he had left he spent on wailing and moaning in pain. He cannot endure it. They traced the little fire over the words. How painful! I did not want to look anymore but the man behind me had a tight grip so I couldn't turn my face even if I wanted to.
